Begin Healing from Trauma in a Safe, Supportive Space

Trauma recovery, particularly from childhood abuse or traumatic events, is a deeply personal and often challenging journey. The effects of early trauma can linger for years, causing you to experience:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • PTSD

  • Difficulty with trust

  • Low self-esteem

  • Or even chronic physical pain

These experiences can shape how you see yourself, others, and the world around you, which often leads to emotional numbness, avoidance, or hypervigilance.

We understand that right now, from your standpoint, the road to healing may seem overwhelming and perhaps even unreachable. But we want to assure you that recovery is possible, and it starts with acknowledging the pain and seeking support. So, thank you for being here! You’ve just taken your first step to processing and healing from past trauma.

Therapy can help you to process and reframe traumatic memories, making it possible to reclaim a sense of control and emotional safety in your life.

What Is Trauma and How Does It Affect You?

Trauma refers to deeply distressing or disturbing experiences that overwhelm your ability to cope and live a happy life. For many people, trauma originates from:

  • Childhood abuse

  • Neglect

  • Violence

  • Or other traumatic events

However, trauma can also result from one-off experiences, such as accidents, loss, assault, or even prolonged stress.

The impact of trauma is not only emotional; it can also affect your thoughts, relationships, and even physical well-being.

Perhaps you’ve already noticed one or more of those symptoms:

  • Persistent anxiety or depression

  • Difficulty trusting others

  • Low self-esteem or self-doubt

  • Emotional numbness or disconnection

  • Avoidance of certain memories, places, or conversations

  • Hypervigilance or feeling constantly “on edge”

  • Chronic physical pain or tension

Because trauma affects how you see yourself, others, and the world around you, it can quietly influence many areas of life, and not in a good way.

What Is PTSD?

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event that leaves you feeling frightened, helpless, or unsafe. PTSD occurs when your brain and body remain stuck in survival mode long after the danger has passed.

PTSD can develop following experiences such as:

  • Physical assault

  • Childhood abuse or neglect

  • Military combat

  • Serious accidents

  • Medical trauma

  • Natural disasters

  • Sudden loss of a loved one

  • Witnessing violence or traumatic events

Living with PTSD can feel exhausting. Even when you know you're safe, your mind and body may continue to react as though the threat is still present.

PTSD doesn't just affect your mental health. It can impact your relationships, work, physical well-being, and overall quality of life. You may find yourself constantly scanning for danger, struggling to relax, or feeling disconnected from the people and activities you once enjoyed.

Why Should You Seek Trauma/PTSD Therapy?

Maybe you’ve tried coping with trauma/PTSD by pushing painful memories aside or focusing on simply getting through the day. While this approach may help temporarily, unresolved trauma often continues to affect emotional health, relationships, and self-confidence. You need a more strategic and long-lasting solution. And this is where our role begins.

Here at Rooted Survivors, we provide you with a safe and compassionate space where you can explore your emotions and experiences at your own pace and start the healing process.

With our support, you will begin to:

  • Process traumatic memories in a way that feels manageable

  • Reduce symptoms such as flashbacks, anxiety, or nightmares

  • Understand how past experiences influence your present reactions

  • Develop healthier emotional patterns and coping strategies

  • Rebuild trust in yourself and others

  • Restore a sense of control and emotional safety

Healing from trauma is not about forgetting what happened. Instead, therapy helps you integrate those experiences so they no longer define your life or control your reactions.

Our Approach to PTSD and Trauma Counseling

For PTSD and trauma therapy to be effective, it requires a careful and supportive environment where you feel heard, understood, and empowered. And that’s what we strive to provide you with in the therapeutic process here at Rooted Survivors Therapy.

We focus on creating a comfortable space that allows you to explore difficult experiences without feeling overwhelmed or judged. Sessions are collaborative, meaning we work together to understand your story, identify the patterns that may be holding you back, and develop tools that support lasting healing.

Over time, with our help, you will notice that the emotional intensity of past experiences has decreased. However, the goal is not just symptom relief, but helping you restore a life that’s more stable, meaningful, and emotionally safe.

Meet Lauren, an Experienced Trauma & PTSD Therapist in CA and OK

Lauren E. Taylor, LMFT
Practice Founder and Clinical Supervisor
EMDR and DBT certified
Licensed in CA, OK and NV

My work as a therapist has been shaped by more than a decade of supporting people through trauma, relationship challenges, and intense emotional experiences.

I began my career in crisis and community mental health settings, working with teens and adults navigating severe mental illness, mood disorders, and high-risk situations. Those early years taught me how to stay present, calm, and effective in moments when clients felt overwhelmed or hopeless.

In 2020, I became an EMDR certified therapist, which allowed me to support clients in processing trauma at a deeper and more transformative level. Alongside EMDR, DBT has remained a core piece of my work. I have facilitated DBT skills groups, provided DBT trainings to clinicians, and used these tools extensively with clients working to regulate emotions, set boundaries, and build healthier patterns.

I integrate EMDR, DBT, CBT, and relational therapies to help clients heal from trauma, navigate difficult relationships, and build a more stable and empowered sense of self. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, supported, and capable of meaningful change. No matter what you’ve lived through.
